The New York Times strikes yet again in a piece taking a critical look at the success of the Prius and its emergence as a status symbol in the eyes of consumers:
There is also an interesting story by a woman who begins the week relishing in the status conferred by her new 600 dollar Iphone only to conclude that perhaps she doesn’t need it after all:
While still problematic, it is refreshing to see this and similiar articles recently in the Times.

There is a show on our local Pacifica station called “The New Capital Show.” The host Leo Gold(?) talks about the true cost of items–environmental costs included. It’s a good listen. You can hear it on streaming audio at KPFT.org.
