The Devil Made Me Do It
Sat, Apr 28th, 2007
Well, you have to blame somebody, and of course, the devil is as good as anyone else. A Utah Republican has introduced a formal resolution at the state’s Republican party convention to argue that immigration is part of Satan’s plan to destroy America. Satan, though, is apparently very busy these days. Not only is he trying to ruin America with the Mexican scourge, he’s also apparently working overtime trying to pry god out of schools, and to promote abortion and child pornography. And when he’s not doing that, he’s working double-time with Hollywood and the music industry to create content that glorifies violence and promotes Satanic messages…or so says the American Family Institute in their newest video production The Day They Kicked God Out Of The Schools.
Of course, I don’t believe in mythical sky beings, or even mythical beings from the deep, dark recesses of the netherworld, but watching Kirk Cameron talk about bananas, atheists, and creationism is probably the closest thing to proof of a dark overlord that I’ve seen.1
- Am I the only one who notices some, er, phallic themes throughout this video? Or is that just Satan working through me? [↩]

The video made me cringe and laugh all at the same time.
Nice blog by the way. Maybe it will inspire me to put up a new post on mine some day.

I like seitan! I especially like the seitan Reuben sammiches at the Chicago Diner.
Seriously though, even though I believe in a God, bigoted conservative televangelical idiots drive me bonkers, so I think I’ll pass on watching that video.

Oh lordy (pardon the pun). When people like Don Larsen start representing as the voice of god, we all have a helluva lot more to worry about than the devil. And this is especially true when Kirk Cameron gets involved with creationism. It doesn’t get much more ridiculous than bananas with pop can tabs.
Funny how the concept known as “satan” is what is used by some to excuse themselves from taking responsibility for their own actions or the actions of their fellow humans. If anything is destroying America (or Utah, as it would seem) it’s the hate perpetuated by the fear, intolerance and ignorance of those who use all of our so-called differences as justification for such hate.

That AFI video was just a little over three minutes, but I had a hard time watching all of it. Creepy, creepy people.
Didn’t Darwin say something about bananas being the perfect food for humans?

Man, I love living in Utah (eyes roll and body does every type of non-verbal communication indicative of sarcasm).
