Inked Inc. Shoot
Mon, Apr 23rd, 2007
As many of you know from my previous entry about perfecting my own Zoolanderish Blue Steel, I went to Boston this past weekend where I was photographed for Dave Kimelberg’s project, Inked Inc.. Joined by his wife, Dave set about taking contrasting shots of me dressed in what I’d wear to work on a particularly good day and my everyday clothing….and though I don’t wear a suit to work often, I do have to dress pretty well every so often for meetings or dinners, so this isn’t so far out there.1
Dave sent me a few of the better shots from the session already, and I thought I’d share two of my favorites here, even though it feels mildly odd and somewhat self-indulgent to be posting pictures of myself like this. But hey, it is a blog, and they’re all about odd self-indulgence.
Anyway, you should check out Dave’s site, and pick up a copy of his book while you’re there, too. It is an excellent book full of shots from the Inked Inc. series that play with the contrast between professional and private sides in interesting ways, and which show that tattoos are no longer the province of criminals, bikers, sideshow freaks, and the like.
Oh, one last funny thing: I sent the pics to my mom, and she wrote the following back, which made me laugh pretty hard:
Well, glad you got home safe and sound, you are right, I love the business pictures of you, BUT!!!!!! The freaky tattoo pictures are yuckie!! I'll call you tonight!
Love you!!
Mom
heh.
- I clean up okay, huh? [↩]

Ewww, you look all sick from a lack of protein!
Glad we have a vegan representing.
Nice pictures, and nice tattoos! I’m getting my first sometime soon (I hope).
Woo Hoo! yea for Vegans!

Your mom is too cute!

I don’t think i’ve ever seen a proper photo of you on the internets before, Bob! You look *so* professorish, I would’ve never imagined that. Hee. Nice blue steel, definitely.

cute!

The pics look great Bob! I’m gonna have to disagree with your Mom. I like the tattoo pics better than the dressed up pic (although that is also a really nice shot of you).

Hubba hubba!

Nice pictures. I had no clue you looked so fucking cuddly, though.
With people I know online the image of them I have rarely matches the way they actually look.

Your Mum is hilarious!
You look great…

That’s a really nice picture of you. Now where’s Jenna?!

Bob, you look like a little boy in those pics. Seriously, I think you’re de-aging.
# Comment by Dana (Delany) on Wed, Apr 25th, 2007 at 9:51 am:
“Seriously, I think you’re de-aging.”
That reminds me of a line from “Camelot” (yes, the musical), when Arthur is explaining about Merlin to Guenivere. “He doesn’t age, he youthens.”

Thanks, everyone, for the funny and kind comments.
I, too, prefer the tattooed picture better, as the one with me all suited up really is kind of a rarity….

Fabulous pictures! Your mom’s e-mail is priceless–I read it in my mom’s voice because she would say exactly the same thing with the exact same numbers of exclamation points.

That’s so funny what your mum said. She sounds pretty cool though. I would have said the opposite - you look very cool with the tattoos and yuckie in the suit!
# Comment by Heather on Sun, Apr 29th, 2007 at 4:43 pm:
Your mom sounds sweet, though I have to disagree with her.

Let us know when the book is ready I’d like to order a copy.

Actually, the first thing I thought when I saw the pics was, “I bet Bob’s mom likes the suit pic best.” But since I’m probably closer to her age than yours, I guess it’s not surprising.

Vegan represent! I like the ink and I think the project is a great one. Tattoos and those that have them are finally getting away from the negative mystique they have had in the past.
The comment from your mom sounds just like mine. Every time she sees my brother (an ex-con coincidentally) and me she makes a comment about our tattoos…usually negative until about two months ago when we convinced her to get one. haha
Suits make me uncomfortable (even looking at them…and ties too, ahhhhh). The other pic looks better dude.

How did I miss this? Good photoshoot and jealous that you have more ink that I do now.
